Have you ever wonder why the quality of our focus influences the level of understanding?
Here is a cool experiment you can try out on your self for moment:Look at someone next to you. Maybe it is your husband, wife or friend. Now really focusing on them during this experiment, attempt to notice what is off to the side but without taking your eyes off the person you are looking at. What is off to the side is slightly blurry or out of focus. We don't understand it as much as what or who we are directly looking at. It has less influence, doesn't it?
Notice how the person in your line of sight is in perfect focus, more clear and even more of an influence as they begin to crack a smile and begin laughing. You in turn smile back and maybe even begin to laugh yourself.
What you focus on will always be clearer to you, giving you information that influences your thoughts, decisions and even the direction you take in life. Meanwhile everything else will seam like it is off to the side and even somewhat blurry, or "out of focus".
When we focus on Jesus, His will for us becomes clear. His character, His love and even His favor becomes a stronger influence in our daily lives. In the same way, when we take our eyes off Jesus, placing Him more off to the left or right of our attention, Jesus starts to become more blurry, or "out of focus". The world becomes our focus. As a result we begin to loose our peace, our hope becomes duller with each passing day. Whats worse is the character of Jesus becomes less of an influence on us, and the influence we had on the others around us, is gone.
It is obvious of course, that if we remain focused on Jesus our lives will reflect the influences that Jesus has to offer. We become habitually inherent to respond to the world around us as though we ourselves are living extensions of Christ.
When you know the "Truth" about something doesn't it always influence your perspective on things? Staying focused on Jesus will bring about new habits that will propel you into a more fruitful life, filled with hope, peace love and everything that Jesus is.
That's what happens, when we focus our attention on Jesus. He may even smile on you, and you smile back because even His joy will influence you.
Now, try the experiment again... No laughing this time. :-)
Kind regards,
Don
